NVIDIA unveils GeForce RTX 5090: specs, price and what to expect
NVIDIA presented the GeForce RTX 5090 at CES 2026, bringing the Blackwell architecture to the consumer market. It is the generation promising the biggest jump in ray tracing and artificial intelligence since the move to tensor cores — but also the most expensive in the history of the xx90 lineup. The question on everyone's mind: is it worth the price?
What changed in the Blackwell architecture
The RTX 5090 comes with 32 GB of GDDR7 on a 512-bit bus, a considerable jump from the 24 GB on the RTX 4090. NVIDIA promises gains of up to 2x in ray tracing and 40% better energy efficiency over the previous generation, with the same 450W TDP.
What catches my attention most is DLSS 4. The previous generation was already impressive at upscaling, but the new version attacks exactly where the 4090 struggled: scenes with heavy path tracing in 4K. The first independent reviews that came out confirm much of what was promised, which doesn't always happen with launches of this scale.
Price and availability
The launch price in the US is US$ 1,999. It is high, but consistent with the premium positioning of the xx90 lineup. In Brazil, estimates range between R$ 14,000 and R$ 16,000 depending on the model, Founders Edition or AIB partners.
Availability is expected by the end of January 2026, with limited initial stock. The community already warns that scalpers should make purchasing difficult in the first months, so anyone wanting one at launch needs stock alerts and patience.

Preliminary verdict
My recommendation is clear: if you have an RTX 3080 or older, the jump to the 5090 will be enormous, both in gaming and in AI. If you already have a 4090, the upgrade exists but is far too expensive for the real gain in most scenarios.
For those in the middle ground, waiting for the full reviews and the arrival of the RTX 5070 might be the smarter move. AMD's competition, with more aggressive pricing, should also heat up the market in the coming months. In the end, the 5090 seems like a solid evolution, but the high price divides opinions for good reason.
